First of all, i did not write this. I came across someone named Larry Chen on the net from the car team group-junkies who just recently did a "minor" maintenance on his datsun 240z(260, 280, not entirely sure)with the rb25det engine. All credits goes to him. I am backing up his maintenance diary here, just in case, like all the good tutorials out there goes down.Stuffs covered in this post:
- Oil pickup install
- Oil pan install
- Oil cooler bracket install
- Timing belt cover install
Day 7, Oil Pan and Pickup Pictured on the left is the RB20DET pickup from a 200ZR (Rear Sump). On the right is the RB25DET pickup from an ECR33.
This is the part number for the oil pickup. "15050-20P03" - 200ZR Oil Pickup Strainer/Tube
The 200ZR Sump doesn't have the groove for the O-Ring and the ECR33 pickup does. I ordered a new O-Ring (few cents) but realized it was going to be no good. So ditch the O-Ring.
This is where my friend the gasket maker comes into play.
Make sure the oil pickup area is clean and ready to go.
Install the new pickup (make sure the strainer part points to the BACK of the motor). It's really hard to F this one up but it can be done. 8.4-11 N-m or 0.86-1.1 km-m
On the left are the stock oil pan bolts when cleaned up with a wire wheel, the ones on the right are dirty
So there you have it, I cleaned each oil pan bolt with a wire wheel and they look spiffy. Usually all 30 bolts would look the same but my dog got into the bolts and now only 15 stock ones were left.
The larger ones you see towards the bottom of the picture are oil pan bolts from a 2nd generation Maxima. They still work fine so more power to universal Nissan bolts!
Oil pans look good when they are unmolested.
"11110-20P00" - 200ZR RB20DET Oil Pan (Rear Sump)
Remember there are 30 oil pan bolts!
I'm anal retentive and used blue threadlocker on all bolts.
So there it is installed.
Anther view of the oil pan.
I removed the oil filter/cooler unit thingy and this is what it looks like. Going to clean up the gasket and reinstall the unit.
Torque these bolts to 16-21 N-m, {1.6-2.1 kg/m}. There are 4 bolts in there.
Hand tighten the oil filter and place a little oil on the seal when installing.
"13524-D0112" Cam Cover Grommets (8)
The last look at the timing chain naked.
Install the bottom cover
Then the top
Reinstall the water pump pulley
Remove the 6 bolts for the power steering pulley
Now the ATI damper looks bare and ready to install
Motor mounts and transmission mount, these will go in tomorrow
Everything is stainless and ready to go in soon!

Actually Larry Chen didn't do this build... I did... My name is Quoc Pham and I used Larry Chen's website! However... it's handy to anyone who uses it!
Yup, it's really helpful. It's a good source of information.
